Taking a Winter Road Trip? Signs Your RV Needs Repairs Before You Leave

If you're going to take your RV on the road this winter, now's the time to take care of the repairs. You want your RV to be in sound running condition when you head out. Before you leave on vacation, make sure the brakes and tires are in good condition. Then, check your RV for the problems listed below. If you notice any of these problems, take your vehicle to an RV repair service before you head out for your winter road trip.

Your Warning Lights Are Blinking

If your dashboard warning lights have started blinking, head to a repair shop as soon as possible. Some dashboard warning lights might seem like minor issues, but they're not. Any time a warning light comes on, it should get checked out by a mechanic. This is especially true with regard to temperature, electrical, and engine lights. Those lights could be a sign of a serious problem with your RV. Before you head out on your winter vacation, have the warning lights diagnosed. That way, you can take care of the repairs right away.

There's No Power to the Battery

If there's no power coming from the secondary battery, now's the time to visit a repair shop. If the secondary battery doesn't have power, your RV won't function properly. In fact, your RV won't have the power to activate any of the auxiliary systems. Your mechanic can get to the root of the problem. You may need to get the battery charged before you leave on vacation. If the battery isn't the problem, there could be an issue with the electrical system. You'll need to get the power issues repaired as soon as possible.

There's a Change in the Odors

If you're smelling strange odors in your RV, don't ignore the problem. The first thing you should do is check the refrigerator and the toilets. You could have rotten food in the refrigerator. Or, someone could have forgotten to drain the waste tank after the last trip. Those are easy fixes. But, if those issues aren't the problem, you need to take your RV to a repair shop. Strange odors can be a sign of serious problems.

You've Got Some Water Leaks

If your RV has sprung some water leaks, don't postpone repairs. A leaky roof can spell disaster for your vacation, and so can a leaky toilet. Both problems can cause serious water damage inside your RV. To avoid damage, have the water leaks repaired before you leave for your vacation.
